The College is prohibited by law from guaranteeing a job. However, job skills training is an important service provided to all students free of charge.

What is the difference between a TESL Diploma and a TESL Certificate?

TESL is mandated in Ontario as a post-secondary field of study which requires that a TESL training program be approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. In order to issue a DIPLOMA the institution must be post-secondary and the institution must have the program inspected and approved as a Diploma. Some Colleges in Ontario have upgraded their TESL Certificate program to a TESL Diploma program over the past few years to meet with industry standards and to help individuals distinguish between a post-secondary and non-post-secondary program. This program is a Diploma program. Credits from a Diploma program tend to also be more widely accepted as transfers for graduate programs in TESL. Credit transfers are up to the university to evaluate and grant.

Where can I work with this Diploma?

The program provides training in all areas of TESL so that graduates can decide which area they are best suited for. Graduates of this program have gained employment in virtually all sectors of the ESL field including language schools, learning centres, secondary and elementary schools, school board adult education, LINC Centres, special education, government programs, and even starting their own tutoring businesses.

Does the College provide any financial assistance to students?

Tuition fees can be paid on a monthly payment plan rather than in full at the start of the program. This may help make the tuition fees more affordable. Tuition fees can also be paid using any major credit (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) to help students spread out payments even further. This program may also be eligible for government financial aid; all recipients are welcome.

How do I apply?

Simply request an application form by email, mail, telephone, or in person and submit it with the required the supporting documents by the application deadline. Contact the registrar's office for application deadline and start dates.

Linda Bordonaro

“I graduated from the Canadian College of Educators in August, and I was proud to add the TESL Diploma to my previous qualifications. There is only one word to describe this course at the College – it is simply amazing. From the very first day I realized how well organized and prepared everything was and how helpful the teachers are. The atmosphere was great. After 20 years I have spent in the field of education I can say that this course really impressed me. I had a great time, busy schedule and successful results, and I met many new colleagues and friends. As an internationally trained specialist in education I found that the program helped me to meet Canada’s requirements in the field of ESL teaching and showed me new ways of teaching English as a second language. Under the guidance of my helpful, understanding, experienced and knowledgeable teachers, I moved ahead in my personal process of gaining professional self-esteem in a new country. I received not only my recognized Diploma, but also precious experience. I really miss the time I spent in the College, where the faculty gave us a lot, treated us with respect, prepared us for a real-life teaching practice and believed in us. Thank you for your well-done job! To all my new colleagues, current and potential students of the College, I can only say: do not miss this great opportunity; you will enjoy it and it is worth it! Louise Foster

“I just want to thank you for providing an excellent TESL course. The instructors were very professional; in fact the whole course was beyond what I had expected regarding the kind of information received. Since completing the course I have found I know more than I thought I had learned. Often I am being asked questions from other teachers in the school where I work regarding the curriculum and how to organize a program. So it seems I am recognized as the teacher with the “much knowledge”. I have your course to thank for that. In my opinion your course far exceeds the expectations of some schools and provides students like me with confidence to teach ESL anywhere. You have a winning course, keep it up.”
Bryce Kerr

“Having a Masters in Second Language Education and years of ESL teaching experience I didn’t think there would be much for me to learn in a TESL program, but I wanted the TESL Certification. I learned A LOT!
